Qiandao Lake is located in Chun'an County, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The lake covers an area of 573 square kilometers and contains 1,078 islands, hence the name "Thousand Island Lake."
The underwater ruins here date back 600 years to the Ming Dynasty. They feature typical local architectural styles and are relatively well preserved. Exquisite carvings can be seen on lintels, beams, and columns, and the overall house structures remain clearly visible.
Diving at the Ming Dynasty ruins of Qiandao Lake is open year-round, with the best season from December to June. Below is reference information for local diving conditions.

* For safety reasons, all divers are required to complete the skills below in their check dive: Fin pivot (neutral buoyancy skill), Hover, Stop at the predetermined depth and hover, Alternate air source breathing when hovering.
Divers who cannot demonstrate sufficient buoyancy control or skill mastery during the check dive will not be allowed to dive the ancient village sites for safety reasons. They need to practice the skills with our instructor in the lagoon in subsequent dives till they meet the performance requirement.
Diver Requirements
- Hold an Advanced Open Water certification, or an equivalent or higher-level diving certification.
- Divers should have good buoyancy control, stable trim, and the ability to calmly follow the dive guide and underwater guide lines in low-visibility conditions.
* If a drysuit is required and the diver does not hold a drysuit certification, a drysuit orientation and practice session may be conducted during the check dive. Continued participation in the underwater heritage dives will depend on the diver's performance and the instructor's final safety assessment.
** If you are currently a PADI Open Water Diver, you can join our PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course as your pathway to the Qiandao Lake underwater heritage dives. Some of the Adventure Dives in the course may be conducted in the underwater heritage area, subject to safety conditions.
Getting to Qiandao Lake
Qiandao Lake is located in Chun'an County, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The most convenient way to reach Qiandao Lake is usually by high-speed train or private car.
The nearest high-speed railway station is Qiandaohu Railway Station, with direct or connecting high-speed trains from major cities such as Hangzhou and Shanghai. After arriving at Qiandaohu Railway Station, please take a taxi to your hotel.
We recommend staying in Qiandaohu Town, preferably within our dive trip pickup area, shown by the blue circle on the map below. There are many hotel options around the town center and lakefront area. If you are not sure whether your hotel is within this area, please check with us before booking.
We strongly recommend arriving in Qiandao Lake one day before your dive trip. This helps avoid delays caused by train schedules, traffic, weather, or equipment preparation.

Underwater Ruins Diving Package

Includes: 3 dives (1 check / test dive + 2 underwater-ruins boat dives), dive guide, tank, weights, dive insurance, transfers between hotel and dive sites, and lunch.

Includes: 5 dives (1 check / test dive + 4 underwater-ruins boat dives), dive guide, tank, weights, dive insurance, transfers between hotel and dive sites, and lunch.
- Non-diver companion: RMB 380 / person / day (RMB 680 / person / two days)
Includes: hotel-to-dive-site transfers, boat space, and lunch. Non-divers do not participate in any underwater activities.

Notes / Important Information
- Bottom water temperature at the dive sites is approximately 12 - 16°C. A drysuit, semi-dry suit, or two-piece 5mm wetsuit is recommended. You will also need a hood, gloves, and a dive torch.
- For wetsuit or semi-dry suit diving, please bring your own swimwear and a rash guard or sun-protection top to wear underneath.
- For drysuit diving, you may bring your own thermal base layers or suitable undergarments to wear underneath the drysuit.
- The package is based on single-tank air dives. Nitrox is available with an additional charge.
- Respect local surroundings and minimize environmental impact. Fishing and collecting are strictly prohibited.
- Dive safely and within your training and experience limits.
- You must wait at least 24 hours after diving before taking a commercial flight.
- Divers found touching or collecting any underwater objects will have all remaining dives canceled.

To make a booking, please provide the following information:
- The diving package you would like to join: one-day package or two-day package
- Your preferred diving date
- A copy, screenshot, or photo of your passport and diving certification card
- Your diving experience, including approximate number of logged dives
- The date of your most recent dive
- Whether you need to rent any equipment. If yes, please let us know which items you need and the sizes, or provide your height, weight, and shoe size.
- Do you have any dietary restrictions, food allergies, or special meal requirements?
Once we receive your information, we will review your certification level, recent diving experience, and equipment needs. We will then confirm availability and suitability for the trip.
Advance payment is recommended to secure your booking. For international guests who may have difficulty making advance payment, payment on the diving day may be accepted by prior arrangement.
We accept payment by WeChat Pay, Alipay, or cash.
Booking Changes & Cancellation Policy
Changes to your booking date are free of charge, subject to availability. Please contact us as early as possible if you need to change your diving date.
Diving at Qiandao Lake usually operates in most weather conditions. However, trips may be cancelled or postponed by us in the event of thunderstorms or lightning for safety reasons. If we cancel the trip for these reasons, a full refund will be provided for any payment already made.
Poor visibility is common at Qiandao Lake, especially from July to November, and is not a reason for cancellation or refund. Dives will only be conducted when conditions are considered safe by our dive team.
For safety reasons, actual dive sites may be adjusted according to lake level, weather, wind, waves, visibility, diver experience, and daily conditions.
If a diver is unable to demonstrate safe diving ability during the check dive or at any point during the trip, they may not be allowed to dive certain sites. In this case, no refund will be provided.
No refund will be provided if a diver is unable or chooses not to dive due to personal reasons, including late arrival, hangover, illness, ear equalization problems, personal discomfort, or choosing not to dive after arrival.
